This week I had the opportunity to meet one of my favorite restaurateurs and celebrity chefs of all time, John Besh!
{I’m cuter than this, I promise. It had been a long day.}
You may be familiar with John Besh from his appearances on The Next Iron Chef, Top Chef Masters, and his cooking show on PBS, Chef John Besh’s New Orleans.
I’m lucky enough to work across the street from his newest restaurant, Lüke on the Riverwalk here in San Antonio. I visit for happy hour almost once a week it seems like, and meet up with friends and coworkers for dinners as often as possible. The menu is a mix of German, French & Creole inspired dishes. The beer selection features several options from small breweries in both Texas and Louisiana. If you’re visiting San Antonio, definitely drop by and tell them Waspy sent ya.
In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I wanted to share the John Besh love with my readers! I had him autograph a copy of his latest cookbook, My Family Table, especially for you!
The giveaway will be open through Friday, November 25th at midnight, CST. To enter, just tell me what your favorite family dish is in the comment section of this post.

My favorite family dish is pho but it takes so long to make the broth and slow cook the brisket that I’ve never tried making it. (It scares me!)
I also follow you on twitter @lindaeatsworld
My favorite family dish is my Aunt Betty’s seafood gumbo – we make it every Christmas. I just added this book to my Christmas list! Love John Besh – got to eat at August last week in New Orleans and it was amazing.
Also, I follow you on Twitter (@JLRames), and Facebook, and of course follow Luke! I will retweet too…
My favorite holiday dish is a new find from last year…pumpkin pudding! It is fantastic and even better than pumpkin pie!
My favorite family dish is my Grandma/Mom’s spanakopita. We eat it on Thanksgiving or Christmas.
-I retweeted
-And I follow you on Twitter!
My fave dish is fideo…but the way my grandma and my mother-in-law make it…with ground beef (or soy…yes, soy), beans and queso blanco. I’ve tried to make it, but as simple as it is, I have not seemed to master their recipes…I think I just need to steal their cast iron skillets! :p
Glad you were able to meet Mr. Besh! I was the total fan girl this weekend and tried to meet the Cake Boss this weekend…but apparently I wasn’t quick enough to rush the stage during his show… Booo :p
Ooh, love this! John Besh is totally dreamy, and I fantasize about eating at August again regularly. My gave family dish would have to be a huge pot of collards cooked in “pot likker” for hours. Lots of pepper vinegar for serving, of course!
Twitter follower alert!
Also: I think you look really cute in this pic!
One of our favorite family meals is red beans and rice. I follow you and Luke on Facebook!
Grits and Grillades is my favorite! I requested for my birthday every year.
I go to Luke to get my fix now!
I like you, Luke, and I think I reposted.
I like a big pot of chili (with beans!), and a smorgeshboard of fixings like cheese, onions, fritos, sour cream, and rice. It’s a dish best shared with friends and family, maybe with some nice cold beers while campning or watching the game.
Also, I liked the Waspy Redhead on Facebook, and I already follow you on Twitter.
Like Sarah above, one of our favorite family meals is red beans and rice with sausage. My mother-in-law gave me a binder of family recipes at my bridal shower and this is one of our go-to meals–and it makes plenty for our family of 6!
Love me some Besh and MFT is currently on the top of my Christmas Wish List!
My favorite family dish…. Hmmmmm… Difficult… probably my grandmother’s Charlotte Russe {which we’ve always called Charlotte Rouge}, perfected over decades by generations of Itta Bena, Mississippi relatives!
I’m a FB and Twitter follower!
I’m a sucker for green bean casserole. At least I don’t put slices of american cheese on top like my grandma!
and ps, I just started following you on twitter!
Arroz con leche!!!
Simple, inexpensive, and quick way to make anyone in the family feel like a kid. It was the biggest treat when my grandmother would make this for me late night. Her twist on warm milk before bed.
Twice baked potatos!
