Hump Day Give-A-Way, Swiffer Swag!

Steve and I are both really loving this old house. We’re feeling settled, and like most things are in the right place. There are still minor projects to be done, but for the most part the house has come together the way we like it.

One of the best things about this old house is that we have just about the perfect amount of space. We don’t feel overrun by our stuff, and we don’t have many unused areas. Having just about the perfect amount of space means that it’s easier to keep the house picked up. You aren’t at a loss over where to put things you aren’t using, and there aren’t empty drawers/closets/underutilized spaces to neglect and treat as “stuff graveyards”.

Though it’s relatively easy to keep the house tidy, I’m learning that it’s fairly challenging to keep the house clean. You see, as a recent renovation, there is plenty of construction dust still settling. The windows are (in most cases) original to the home, and they don’t seal super tight in their frames. A very windy front blew through last weekend, and with it a fine layer of dirt lining all 20+ window sills. Le sigh. The trickiest situation is that we have 1100ish square feet of solid surface floors (bamboo in the majority of the home with limestone in the bathroom and slate in the kitchen). In any set of circumstances, that’s a lot of floorspace to keep up with- but the real kicker is that we don’t have a grass in our yard. No matter how clean sweet Roxy dog tries to be, she tracks in a ton of dirt. And so do we for that matter.

I’m able to keep my sanity for the most part because of my trusty friends Swiffer Vac and Swiffer Wet Jet. Once a week I run the Swiffer Vac to pick up all the pet hair, dust bunnies and general dirt. Then I follow with the Swiffer Wet Jet to clean and disinfect.

It sounds like I’m just being all mommy dearest and anal about my routine, but really, both steps are key. When we first moved in I was relying on the Wet Jet alone, and it wasn’t cutting it. The dirt just smeared into clumps at the end of each swipe.

Because I love my readers and I’m feeling generous, I’m going to give away both a Swiffer Vac starter kit and a Swiffer Wet Jet starter kit. I’m not at all affiliated with the fine folks at Procter and Gamble, and I’m not being compensated to hype their products, I genuinely like them.

My least favorite household chore is cleaning the shower/tub. Oh I despise it, especially the smell of the chemicals, YUCK. Although it is a total body workout.

Ahhh, the dreaded toilet bowl cleaning. We have two bathrooms so you would think the only fair division would be one to clean for each of us…but I have yet to see that happen! =)
