It is hot in San Antonio! Oppressively hot. Late August is the soul crushing part of the year here in south Texas. It’s been hot since May, and I know full well that it will be hot until October. Sorry I’m whining yall. Yes I have my health and the love of my family and friends. I should be a content person and not complain about the weather. But it is so hot!!!! Hot to the point where there is nothing you can do to combat the heat. Nothing except laying still with as little clothing on as possible in a mostly dark room and slowly eating ice cream. Yeah you read that right: Semi-nude-horizontal-ice-cream-eating…that’s the remedy I’m prescribing to fight the Texas heat.
Quite the lovely line-up of high-end dairy goodness isn’t it? Now before you gasp with horror and call me a fatty, let me explain…
Behold! Reasonably sized portions of premium ice cream! I was so delighted when I saw these at the grocery store this week. They are available in dozens of flavors and both the Haagen-Daas and Ben & Jerry’s brands come with a wee little spoon tucked in the lid. They are priced around $1 each (which is so NOT a bargain if you calculate the price per oz in this serving size), but the lame price is totally ok because at least there is no risk you might eat a whole pint. Because if you are going to be all “semi-nude and horizontal” about your ice cream consumption you really can’t eat a pint.
Thank you ice cream gods for meeting my needs this summer.
In case you missed it, earlier this week I posted the recipe for my Gin & Tonic popsicles – an easy and fun way to fight the heat. Don’t forget to leave a comment on that post and enter to win a popsicle mold giveaway.
Also of interest, this post featuring Mojito Popsicles by the delightful Nishta of the Blue Jean Gourmet. Great minds think alike when it comes to boozy frozen treats.
