Let’s Get Down To Business

by elizabeth on August 24, 2010

Let’s take care of a few items of business here on the blog shall we?

1.  First up – contest winners!!!  Last week I shared my recipe for Gin & Tonic popsicles, along with my dreams for total world domination beginning with a gourmet paleta company.

Since I’ve come to my senses, and no longer need multiple sets of freezer pop molds I decided to offer up 2 of these by progressive to two of my readers.  Congratulations to Melissa and Tammy who were selected randomly as the winners.  I can’t wait to hear what kind of exciting frozen treats they’ll think up.

2. As I’ve mentioned, this week is the first annual Restaurant Week here in San Antonio.  To celebrate and get in on the action The San Antonio Downtown Alliance and I are hosting a tweetup luncheon this Wednesday.  We left the decision of where to eat up to the attendees, and with six amazing options to chose from they selected Chef Jason Dady’s Insignia.  If Insignia and Chef Dady sound familiar to you, it’s because I’m a bit of a fangirl.  I shared photos of the delicious food from my first trip to Insignia back in June.

3.  Here’s a brief update on my Restaurant Week itinerary thus far:

Saturday Dinner, Auden’s Kitchen:  A first time visit, and I really enjoyed my meal.  Unfortunately I had to stray from the official Restaurant Week pre fixe because the first course was a beet salad.  Dreaded beets!  There are very few things I won’t eat.  Beets is at the top of the list.  The good news is that I got to order their famous buttermilk fried chicken which was not on the menu.  Divine.  If you only eat fried chicken once a year (and I think that shall be my goal from now on) you should eat THIS fried chicken.

Monday Dinner, Bin 555: I’ve enjoyed wine and small plates here on several occasions, and the 3 course menu did not disappoint.  I started off with a salmon tartar with pickled onion relish.  For my entree I enjoyed a rib eye with Yukon gold potatoes and roasted peppers.  For dessert I gobbled up a parfait type dish with nutella, peanut butter and cream.  Oh lawdy.

I’m not done with Restaurant Week yet.  Not by a long shot.  I will probably need to go on some sort of fast or cleanse following all of this indulgence.

Yum! I’m so bummed that I didn’t get to take part in Restaurant Week festivities. I’m hoping we can take advantage of it tomorrow night – can you choose a favorite of the places you partook in?
