Musings on Food, The Good Life & Wasp Style

The Wasp Relocates

So as I am prone to do approximately every 9 months… I’m moving!

I found a great studio apartment at a fantastic adaptive reuse development just north of downtown San Antonio.

I’ve mentioned the Historic Pearl Brewery several times on my blog in the past. It’s home to a weekly farmer’s market, fantastic restaurants and bars, retail shops, the Culinary Institute of America, and with quick access to the Riverwalk, it’s a vibrant and energetic community that I can’t wait to be a part of.

Little known fact about Waspy, I’m kind of a “new urbanism” geek. I was bitten by the city planning bug while studying for my Masters of Public Administration (which I will hopefully finish in December). For my day job in public affairs/marketing/social media, I have a few clients that I work with to promote San Antonio’s downtown core. My office is downtown, less than 2 miles from my new digs. When the temps cool down I could walk or bike to work. Since I often step out to meetings or events, I’ll probably drive most of the time – but I’ll really enjoy not filling up my car once a week. {PSA: Just because I’ll be living a hip urban lifestyle does not mean that I’ll morph into some sort of hipster. No Maam. I’m bringing preppy back to the 78215}

If you’ve followed my blog for a while, you’ll know that I’ve been a bit of a nomad lately. The last time I lived someplace for more than a year was over 4 years ago. Post college, I’ve shuffled belongings from an apartment with roommates, to a rental house with a former beau, then into storage, then back with the roommate etc. I haven’t felt settled. I haven’t felt like I had a “home.” Honestly y’all, I’ve been a little lost. While I’ve always been a very independent person (only child, dig my alone time etc.), this will be the first time I’ve ever lived by myself.

I’m so excited about this fresh start. Excited about 630 sq feet all to myself. Excited about a pretty nice kitchen considering the small size of the apartment. Excited to be able to walk out my front door and see fantastic examples of urban revitalization and one of the nation’s top linear parks.

And for the times I’m not in a “one with nature, one with my city” kind of mood, I’m excited that I’ll also be near bars and restaurants so that I can instead be “one with a cocktail.”

I’m moving in 2 weeks, and I’m sure I’ll share more about my space as I work on making it my own. Hopefully I’ll be back in the kitchen and making recipes more often. I look forward to blogging more regularly. In the meantime, I’ve got to work on getting rid of the things I don’t need so that I can lead as minimal a life as possible in this storage-lacking studio. Fair warning, I’m consigning a ton of cute clothes and handbags, so head on over to Otra Vez later this week to score some great deals from the Waspy closet.

Thanks! Such funny foreshadowing that I was talking about how cool this area was when we had lunch in Austin a few weeks ago. Excited!

  13. That Pearl redevelopment project is so cool – how fitting that you’re moving in there! I hope you’ll love it as well as living alone (which I adored myself).

    • elizabeth says:

Thanks Melissa. I’m looking forward to it. So funny that we were just talking about this area, but I had no plans to move there. We should schedule a playdate for you and Maryann to come visit.

  14. That’s awesome. The hubby and I had toured the Pearl a few months ago but we ended up moving to the Deco District. But we make frequent trips to the Farmers Market…and since you’re always going to be downtown, let’s meet up for a cocktail or 4.

    • elizabeth says:

Oooh I love the Deco District too. I think that whole Fredericksburg corridor is going to be hopping soon. Drinks for sure!

  15. Kate says:

How much fun! Looks like a great area — I loved living solo and every new place was like a new mini adventure!

  16. Rory says:

I hope this means lots of yummy new recipes from all your fresh produce at the Farmers Market! Congrats on the new space — will live vicariously through you since I know I can’t get Jer to move out of the suburbs!
